Bravi Pentatone!

The 2019 Gramophone Awards brought excitement to the artists, staff and fans of classical music label Pentatone when it was named Classical Label of the Year. “Support for a superb roster of artists define this Dutch company,” wrote Gramophone Editor-in-Chief James Jolly in announcing the award. Founded in 2002 by former Phillips executives Job Maarse, Dirk van Dijk and the late Giel Bessels, Pentatone is known for the remarkable audiofile quality and artistic breadth of its recordings.

Mr. Getty has a longstanding relationship with Pentatone, with 10 albums released on the label between 2003 and 2018. His music has also been featured on four Pentatone releases by soprano Lisa Delan as well as Pentatone’s 2015 holiday album. Most recently, Melody Moore’s 2019 recording An American Song Album included two Getty works and was singled out for mention in the Gramophone Awards.

“I have been privileged to work with Pentatone co-founder Job Maarse as my producer for 17 years, and watched the label grow on his watch,” the composer said. “This award recognizes the label’s bright future in the hands of the next generation. Bravi!”
