On May 9, Oper Leipzig will present the world premiere of Gordon Getty’s The Canterville Ghost. The one-act opera, conducted by Matthias Foremny, is featured on a double bill with Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci.

The Canterville Ghost is based on the tragicomic short story of the same name by Oscar Wilde, and focuses on the sunnier side of the narrative. It follows in Getty’s tradition of adapting texts for the stage, and is preceded by Usher House, a transformation of Edgar Allen Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher, which recently premiered in 2014 with the Welsh National Opera.

Anthony Pilavachi directs the production, which runs through June 25, and stars Jennifer Porto, Jean Broekhuizen, Jonathan Michie, Anooshah Golesorkhi, Matthew Treviño, and Denise Wernly. For more information on The Canterville Ghost and other compositions, click here.
