Festival Napa Valley 2023 features multiple Getty works

Gordon Getty has multiple works presented this summer at Festival Napa Valley, starting with a special screening of his opera Goodbye, Mr. Chips on July 12, 2023, at the historic Cameo Cinema in St. Helena. Based on James Hilton’s novella and reimagined for film, Goodbye, Mr. Chips is directed by Brian Staufenbiel and stars Nathan Granner, Marnie Breckenridge, Lester Lynch, and Kevin Short. Nicole Paiement conducts the Barbary Coast Orchestra. Members of The Young People’s Chorus of New York City, conducted by Francisco J. Núñez, represent the boarding school’s students. At Charles Krug Winery on July 18, conductor Constantine Orbelian leads the Festival Orchestra Napa in Seasons of Hope, an evening of works featuring stories of courage, sacrifice, and hope. Included in the program are three choral works by Gordon Getty: the world premiere of Annie Laurie for men’s chorusan arrangement of Shenandoah with soprano Lisa Delan, and the cantata Joan and the Bells (based on the life and martyrdom of Joan of Arc) with baritone Lester Lynch and soprano Melody Moore.

And on July 20, acclaimed baritone Lester Lynch and pianist Kevin Korth present a song recital at CIA in the Copia Ecolab Theater. The program includes arrangements of spirituals and folk songs by Gordon Getty.
