Gordon Getty featured at Festival de Lanaudière in Quebec

Festival de Lanaudière presented two programs featuring Gordon Getty’s music at the Maison de la musique René-Charette in Joliette, Quebec. On May 10, sopranos Lisa Delan and Alexandra Armantrading, baritone Bruce Rameker, and pianist Kevin Korth gave a short recital of Getty’s music, which included Four Dickinson Songs, The Ballad of Poor Peter, and an aria from his opera Plump Jack. The performance was followed by a screening of There Will Be Music, Peter Rosen’s documentary about Gordon Getty’s musical life. On May 11, the film of his opera Goodbye, Mr. Chips was presented, followed by a Q & A moderated by the festival’s artistic director, Renaud Loranger. During the discussion with the composer and two of the film’s producers, Lisa Delan and Nicolle Foland, the audience learned the story behind the film’s genesis and production during the pandemic.
